Brennan - Village Mayor
was appointed Village Trustee in May 1999 to fill a vacancy and was
elected in March 2000 for a full 4-year term as Trustee. He
successfully ran for Mayor in March 2004 after the retirement of
Mayor Lynda Distler. Tom was re-elected in 2008 and again in 2012.
He has been a Village resident for nearly 50 years, is married and has
raised 3 children and has 2 grandchildren. Tom is a Navy Veteran and a
member of the American Legion Post, Rotary International and Kiwanis
Clubs, Lindenhurst Historical Society, the Knights of Columbus,
the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as the Loyal Order of Moose.
He also serves as a Lindenhurst National Little League Executive Board
Member, a Director and a Manager. Mayor Brennan is also a local
businessman as a Director of the Lindenhurst Funeral home as well as a
member of the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce. He was the 2010
winner of the Pride of Lindenhurst Award presented by the Lindenhurst
Board of Education. He is member of the Knights of Columbus OLPH Council
794 and was also the 2009 winner of the Knights of Columbus Irishman of
the Year Award.
Lavorata - Deputy Mayor:
was elected Village Trustee in March 2004. He was re-elected in
2008 and 2012. Mike has been a resident of the Village of Lindenhurst
for 29 years. He is married to Helen for over 30 years and has a
daughter, Nicole. Prior to his election, Mike served for 10 years
on the Board of Zoning Appeals and one year on the Planning Board. He is
a member of the Lindenhurst Historical Society, the Mayor’s
Beautification Society and the Kiwanis Club. Mike has served on
the World War II Memorial Committee and is the founder of the Greater
Daniel Street Civic Association and also served as its first President.
He is also a member of the Le Donne Italia Lodge 2330 Chapter of
the Sons of Italy. Mike also served on the Daniel Street PTA and
as Chairman of the PARP Program for 3 years. He was also a
recipient of the Daniel Street PTA’s Wendy DeFrancisco Memorial Award
has been an Electrical Engineer for over 20 years working on various
Military Programs as a Consultant and is currently employed as a Senior
Project Engineer for a large Public Safety Corporation here on Long
is a member of the Knights of Columbus OLPH Council 794 and was also the
inaugural 2011 winner of the Knights of Columbus Italian-American of the
J. Kost - Village Trustee: Darrel
was elected to the Village Board in March 2014. He was born in Lindenhurst and has
resided in the Village for over sixty years. His father was also
born in Lindenhurst over a century ago and lived here all his life until
he passed. Mr. Kost has
three children, Darrel Jr. who lives in Bar Harbor, Maine, Nicole, who
resides in West Islip and Natalie, a resident of Smithtown. Darrel has
two grandchildren, Jillian and Jake, who live in West Islip. He
coached Lindenhurst Girls Soccer for over ten years and currently
coaches Pee-Wee basketball with his grandson.
is a graduate of Lindenhurst High School and Worcester Polytechnic
Institute with a BS in Civil Engineering, Mr. Kost holds a MS in
Environmental Engineering from SUNY at Stony Brook and has been a
New York State Licensed Professional Engineer for 39 years.
He is Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and
the New York State Association of Transportation Engineers.
retired from the New York State Department of Transportation with over
forty years of service. During those forty or so years, he was
appointed to Governor Mario Cuomo's Scientific Beach Erosion Advisory
Commission in 1992. He was Engineer of the Year in 1995 and represented
the Commissioner of NYSDOT on the management teams for the Peconic
Estuary and the South Shore Reserve Programs.
Koat was the Disaster Coordinator for approximately eight years and
managed the Oil Spill Remediation & Response group; was an expert
witness for the NYS Attorney General's office regarding oil spills;
managed the Environmental Section for eighteen years; and was the
Resident Engineer for the East end of Long Island.
is currently president of Kost Environmental Services Inc., serving the
environmental community for over twenty years.
had previously served as Village of Lindenhurst Assessor for and
member of Zoning Board of Appeals for five years as well as a past
member of the Town of Babylon Citizen Advisory Environmental Group for
has also received three gold medals for “3 on 3” Basketball for Long
Island Senior games.
M. Masterson - Village Trustee: Joan was elected Village Trustee in
March 2012, after serving on the Two Family Review Board for three
years. She also worked previously as a part-time clerk typist for the
Village Court. She is
married to Dan Masterson and has three daughters; Donna, Doreen and
Dawn. Joan has been a
resident of the Village for almost 50 years and was actively involved in
the PTA at E.W. Bower School when her children were young. She
and her husband, Dan have been active members of the United States Guard
Auxiliary for over 35 years. Joan
is a crew member, public relations officer, and is actively involved in
teaching boating safety to adults and children in the community.
As a crew member, she assisted the Coast Guard in the recovery
operation after the Flight 800 tragedy and in the aftermath of 9-11 as
well. She was a member of
the Lindenhurst Lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose for several years, and
is currently a member of the Amityville Yacht Club.
Joan worked for the Town of Babylon as a Recreation Aide at
the Tanner Park Senior Citizen Center for 27 years before retiring from
full-time employment. She is
currently, back at Tanner Park, working part-time as an assistant.
Joan attended St. Michael’s Academy and graduated from
the Thorpe Secretarial School.
Weckerle - Village Trustee:
Maryann was elected to her first public office as Village Trustee in
March 2006. She
was re-elected in 2010. Maryann is
a lifelong resident of Lindenhurst and is married with one son.
Her past includes extensive involvement with the local PTAs, having
chaired many committees and serving on the District Planning Team for
Site-based Management and the PTA Council Scholarship Committee.
Maryann is a past president of the Lindenhurst Historical Society and
presently serves as its treasurer. Other involvement includes
executive board member status with the Mayor's Beautification Society,
member of the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, member of the Lindenhurst
Rotary Club, recipient of the Rotary Club's Community Service Award with
her husband, Tom, in 2005, and board member of the Village of
Lindenhurst's Business Improvement District. Maryann is the
proprietor of a family-owned 50 year-old local small business. She
is a graduate of Lindenhurst High School and has a B.A. in Business
Administration from Molloy College.
Justice H. John Bopp:
Bopp was elected Village Justice in 1990. He
was re-elected in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010. John
is married and has 5 children. He is a lifelong Village resident
and has had a private law practice here for over 30 years. He was
also an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County for over 4
Bopp is a former Law Clerk with the Town of Babylon and the Suffolk
County District Attorney’s Office. He is also the founder of the
Lindenhurst Bulldog Lacrosse Association.
